So here's the basic idea: you come over to play as many board games as your group can handle while eating/drinking/catching up. DnD has a wide variety of board games that range from really simple to overly complicated. Trust me - they have games that appeal to different types of people.
My personal favorites include Avalon, Coup and Cards Against Humanity. I also like that game with the trains, the one with the spiders, the one with the kittens and the one with the round table (yeah, I forgot the names of those games. I'm really lame that way).
Tonight was an "open invite game night" initiated by Toshi "in honor of his balikbayan friend." I had to text him to ask "which balikbayan friend" he was referring to, and cleared my schedule when I found out it was Cathy. If it were for some stranger I would probably pass. Because anti-social.
And now, for the food. I've been to this place several times and always liked the chicken skin. It therefore came as a surprise when it came out tasting like it was not seasoned at all. I had to ask my friends to double check, and we were all in agreement. Wala syang lasa huhu. I wonder if the chef just accidentally fried the skin without seasoning it? Whatever the case may be, it was heartbreaking. I really wanted to give the plate back and ask for another order, but the chicken was almost gone from all the tasting. Oddly, the chips that came with the chicken skin was extra salty. Go figure.
I also ordered the fries, and it also did not taste the way I remembered it. What the heck was going on? Have my dining standards really skyrocketed since I started blogging about food again? And this was supposed to be the "safe" order. I didn't have the heart to ask my friends how the meals they ordered tasted like (hopefully good!)
The Lava Cake (ala mode!) was yummy though. It doesn't look pretty, but it "met my standards," so to speak. It wasn't too sweet so there was no "umay" factor. Glad there was something that I liked tonight because I really love DnD.
The drinks were also good. The iced teas were served on flasks (that's what they're called right? Chem class was ages ago and I couldn't name all those lab equipment if my life depended on it). They also serve alcoholic beverages, so there's something for everybody!
As an added bonus, here's a photo of balikbayan friend counting the "patak patak." No, that's not gambling money, though it does look like she was making "kubra" after a good win.
As always, it was a fun evening. And yes, I ended up meeting some nice people despite my social ineptitude. Nothing like a good game of lies, deceit and accusations to break the ice. Some friendships were also tested - I remember threatening Saren at one point saying "If you are lying to me, end of friendship na!"
