The Pokemon Go Lure Party

It was a rainy Friday night, but I somehow found myself in Eastwood yet again. Had to get some work done and also meet someone. I found a nice spot in UCC and started working. Then I noticed that the Pokemon kept coming and that there were nonstop hearts in the nearby Pokestops - what on earth is going on here?

What else, but a Pokemon Lure party! And a costume party at that. But it was raining cats and dogs (and pokemon, too), so surely this event was a flop, right? I tried to ignore the urge to cross the rainy street and focused on the task at hand. I got a good thing going for a bit there. But the Pokemon trainer in me just wouldn't stop, and so I ditched my laptop, grabbed a jacket, and braved the weather to the old mall. I used the connecting bridge so I didn't have to get wet haha.

One of the first things I saw was a camera crew interviewing Pikachu and Charmander (I think). Shit shit shit, I think they got a shot of me. No no no, I'm not wearing my trainer costume. (Oops, not caring right now, gotta catch this rare Pokemon.) So if you notice me on Bandila or TV Patrol, that's the story behind it. They should have interviewed me. I would have said something about work-life balance and how playing this game can save the world.

The event was surprisingly well attended despite the storm. It would have been a major hit if the weather was more cooperative. It was almost impossible for someone to walk through the crowd of people catching tiny monsters while blocking the covered path. Try disturbing them while they're catching Golduck or Poliwrath and you might find yourself with a shiner or two. Crazy crazy people. And I was one of them haha.

I'm not really a fan of crowds so it took me less than 5 minutes to retreat and try to find a more suitable place to hunt. I went back to the bridge and noticed some people there. Found a nice, semi secluded spot and voila! I find myself in the middle of all the active Pokestops. With my Zagu drink in hand, I spent the next 2 hours or so throwing Pokeballs. I had around 250 in stock (plus dozens of Raz Berries and a couple of Lucky Eggs) so I had a great time. Check out my loot!

I'm probably too old for this shit, and I probably could use my time more productively. But I'm a millennial (at heart) and these are the sorts of things that make me happy. Shallow, perhaps, but it keeps me young (at heart) and active (otherwise I'd probably spend the whole day just sitting and watching tv). And no, I really don't have a Pokemon Trainer jacket, but I wanted to snatch a Pokemon cap from one of the kids who got in my way.

And yeah, people who know me can probably guess who my favorite Pokemon is.
